Chaparral Biome


Biome: –noun- Ecology A complex biotic community characterized by distinctive plant and animal species and maintained under the climatic conditions of the region, esp. such a community that has developed to climax.
Distribution: The California chaparral is located along the coast of California extending  outward to the center of the state. However, the Chaparral biome is also located on the Mediterranean coast. 
Structure: The Chaparral is characterized by dry summer with frequent bush fires and very limited winter rain. Humid air from the oceans keeps the temperature moderate.
Relative Productivity: Due to it's little rainfall and the types of plants that grow there, the productivity is somewhat average due to the consistent growing season.
